Hamilton reigns at Silverstone, slashes Vettel's lead to one point

For once in 2017, everything ran like clockwork for Lewis Hamilton. "It wounding turn! All in all I'm thankful to bring it home P6".

Hamilton so often excels in the wet.

It would rival a separate bid to stage a Grand Prix in the London Docklands, which City A.M. claims would involve a race using roads in Silvertown - an industrialised district in the West Ham area.

"There's 143,000 people employed in the British motorsports industry in the UK alone and 80% of that is exported".

Andretti admitted a bit of luck in ending fourth, but couldn't express how much it was needed for both himself and the No. 27 United Fiber & Data Honda team, led by strategist Bryan Herta.

After the three-time world champion came in for criticism for missing the event - which attracted 100,000 fans - Wolff says the reaction Hamilton's absence received will have provided motivation for his dominant performance at Silverstone.

In Austria that proved problematic for Hamilton. The Northamptonshire track was meant to host the British Grand Prix until 2026 but has posted severe losses over the past two seasons. But after slicing the deficit between then down from 20 to just one point, Hamilton refused to gloat.

Ferrari's weekend never took off. They always looked slower than Mercedes and only a grid penalty for Bottas for changing a gearbox denied the Silver Arrows a potential front row lockout.

"It is not a problem of fatigue - so it is not a problem of integrity", he said. For Valterri, Ferrari's bad luck was a boon as he had started the race ninth due to a five-place grid penalty for a gearbox change, but was seen charging up the grid. Alonso, out of contract at the end of the year, has called on McLaren to make a decision.

The 51-lap race had a few exciting moments at the start including a safety car period. Meanwhile, the wonder boy Max Verstappen had taken up third place after snatching the position from Vettel around the outside of the first loop on lap 1.

He was then 9.5 seconds behind Hamilton, with some clear air ahead of him, but no immediate prospect of catching the Vettel/Verstappen battle.

Vettel said: "Silverstone is a great track - I've been coming for many years". Vettel tried, Verstappen parried. He was up to second when Raikkonen stopped on lap 24, and then a lap after that he passed the pits and saw Hamilton emerge just in front - which when we heard the radio message mentioned earlier. He ran seven laps in second place, gradually falling away, before pitting on lap 32. To get this car where it needed to be was a huge effort.

Anyway, the correlation of the average lap time on the softs was considerably different to that of the supersofts.

He is also on the cusp of an engine penalty as he is on the fourth of the five MG-Hs he is allowed in the season.
