The Los Angeles Dodgers will open the 2018 season against the San Francisco Giants on Thursday, March 29 and host home games during nearly every summer holiday next season, Major League Baseball announced today with the release of next year's preliminary schedule.
Less impressive was the Dodgers' decision to keep Bellinger in the lineup after the rain delay, playing the outfield on wet grounds, a seemingly imprudent risk of injury for the cleanup batter as the calendar approaches October.
Just a month ago the Los Angeles Dodgers were considered the best team in baseball, but a recent collapse coupled with this historical streak from the Indians means Cleveland baseball fans are seeing arguably the best team in the game.
The 40-year-old Vogelsong was drafted by the Giants in the fifth round of the 1998 amateur draft and made his major league debut in their waterfront ballpark on Sept. 2, 2000, finishing his 12-year career 61-75 with a 4.81 ERA while pitching two stints each for San Francisco and Pittsburgh. And yet rather than embrace the truth and include the Dodger faithful in the current reality of the situation, with the exceptions mentioned above, we are hearing false reassurances, excuses and sometimes sheer nonsense from the organization's representatives.
LeMahieu had a big night for Colorado, going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs and an RBI. He gave up a single and then a home run to Wil Myers. They're a virtual lock to qualify for the postseason, where they can make some more history if they manage to right the ship and win their first title since 1988.
Los Angeles has 15 losses in the last 17 days. Maybe Yasiel Puig could even get into it with a teammate in the clubhouse and throw a punch or something? While that's still a.312 average, the combined 23 runners left on base by the team proved costly in the two dropped games. Even though they just lost their weekend series against the Padres, they have won 14 of their last 16 games. But, as we know, things can change in a hurry in baseball, and teams/players almost always end up being exactly what we thought they were.
"We got back to the hotel at 7 or 7:30 in the morning", he recalled.
Posey collected two hits and two RBIs, and Pence scored twice for the Giants (57-89). Reliever Jeremy Affeldt seems to be thinking along these lines.
They did run out a bit more of the NL West clock, when the Arizona Diamondbacks lost. Presumptive playoff starters Clayton Kershaw, Yu Darvish and Rich Hill have thrown just two combined starts on "normal" rest in the second half. The fall of the Dodgers has been shocking. The 1916 New York Giants won 26 straight, the 1935 Chicago Cubs won 21 in a row, and the 2002 Oakland A's had a 20-game winning streak.
For options outside of the organization, I really don't see the Dodgers making too many moves, especially with the 2018-2019 free agency super class coming up.
Another day (a couple of 'em, actually), another loss for the Dodgers. Time of the second delay: 2:52.
The worst part for them is that a date with the Diamondbacks could be waiting for them in the NLDS thanks to how the wild card race is panning out in the National League.
Kershaw (16-3) will pitch Game 2 on Tuesday night, opposed by the Giants' Johnny Cueto (7-7).
